In partnership with the Japan Cricket Association
Established in 2014, Cricket Blast is the first step on the cricket pathway in Japan. As explained in ‘Our Values’, we are aiming to provide a fun and friendly way for children to discover the game of cricket while also encouraging them towards an active and social lifestyle.
With the generous support of the Boards of Education in both Akishima and Sano City cricket is gradually being introduced to elementary school curriculums. We believe that this model will set the standard for other Boards throughout Japan to take up the sport.
With the different aspects or striking, catching, running and throwing, there are many chances for children of all abilities to excel. Cricket is also perfect not only for helping develop the fundamental motor skills that all children require, but also giving a focus to communication, leadership and teamwork.
The JCA are keen to support these initiatives in any way that we can. We run education courses for any teachers willing to learn more about how classes can be run, and also provide national team players, expert coaches and occasional visitors from overseas to visit your school.
We believe that cricket can be played all year round, either indoors in the winter or outside when the sun shines. We are encouraging schools to take up the sport and create their own club teams of six-a-side who can then take part, either as a team or as individuals, in our Cricket Blast programs.
These programs will run once a month from April – November, culminating in a Cup Competition sponsored by the local City Mayor and fully supported by the community. We want to make these days enjoyable for everyone who becomes involved with music, food stalls and lots of laughter!
For those like us who fall in love with cricket, the JCA are busy creating plenty more opportunities to play. Junior clubs exist in all our target areas with Under 12 friendly matches, Under 15 Leagues and National Finals weekends are all great ways to see more Cricket and further develop the skills introduced through the Cricket Blast program.
